(resident designer) trained with Czech scenographer Jaroslav Malina and sculptor Malcolm Cochran. His work has been influenced by his travels to Cuba, England, and the Czech Republic as well as by his internships at The Royal Court Theatre (London) and the Redmoon Theater (Chicago). His recent designs include scenery for Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphoses (University of Oregon), scenery for the devised work Everyone Who Looks Like You (Hand2Mouth), and lighting for Giggle, Giggle, Quack! (Oregon Children's Theatre). Steinmetz is published in Puppetry International, and is the winner of the USITT Rose Brand Award for Scenic Design (2003).  He designed scenery and lighting for North.
